The Imam loved the person that was closer to God. For example, he was very fond of children. When he would kiss his grandson ‘Ali, he would say: “This child is a new covenant and is cherubic; this child is closer to the Origin. This child is purer than others.” If he loved children it was because they were closer to God. There was no need for him to express his feelings. His hatred and love was spontaneous and was for the sake of God.
