When and why did Imam Khomeini not observe fasting?

A grandson of Imam Khomeini has recalled through a series of memoirs that the late founder of the Islamic Republic always had great plan of performing prayers and reciting supplications during the holy month of Ramadan.

Recalling Imam’s special plan of worship during Ramadan, Seyyed Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of Imam Khomeini said in a post on Instagram that he and other family members regularly used to join Imam for congregational evening prayers during the blessing month.

Imam had also managed to lead the morning prayers if some family members would join him.

Imam had given up keeping fast only after 1980 when he suffered a heart attack, he noted.

Late Seyyed Ahmad Khomeini had given great importance to fasting and never gave it up unless doctors diagnosed him with stomach ulcer, Imam's grandson stated.

Imam Khomeini had attached great significance to observing fast and reciting Quran and supplication during this holy month.

According to the great Imam, the holy month of Ramadan might have been prescribed, because it is a month in which the holy Prophet has perceived the truth. After this perception, the angels and the Qur'an have been sent down. By His power the angels are sent down and by the power of the grand wali, the Qur'an and angels are revealed.

The grand wali reached the truth of the Qur'an in the holy month and on the night of Qadr. After the perception, He caused Quran to be sent down through the angels who are all subordinate to Him so as to communicate to people to some extent.

The holy Qur'an is beyond our approach and it is beyond the capacity of human being. It is a secret between the Truth and the grand wali who is the messenger of God.
